Windswept deformity is a very rare knee disorder in which one knee is deformed towards the outwards and the other one towards the inwards. This deformity may be commonly seen in children with rickets but it is very rare in adults.
This deformity gets its name from the conception that originally one leg is deformed towards the inside (valgus Knee) and as if a wind blows towards this knee causing the other knee to bend towards the outside (varus Knee).
World literature reports only about 24 such cases which were operated and a total knee replacement was done for them.
This case which was operated by Dr Amyn Rajani is the first Bilateral knee Replacement Surgery in India for a Windswept Deformity.
The patient was a 64 yr old Nigerian and is now walking comfortably.
