Hip Replacement is a surgery done for better mobility and painless life.
It corrects the deformities in the affected hip and corrects the Limb length discrepancies if any.
Hip Replacement Surgery is advised for a variety of disorders like for example avascular necrosis of Hip, Osteoarthritis of Hip, Rheumatoid Arthritis of hip, Ankylosed Hip etc.
Hip replacement in India are generally done more commonly for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Avascular necrosis of hip and less commonly for Osteoarthritis of hip.
Surgery Duration is roughly around one and a half hour and is performed under spinal and Epidural Anaesthesia.
Post surgery the patient is made to walk on the 3rd day and is usually discharged from the hospital by about the 6th day

Cemented Total Hip Replacement: |

In this type the prosthesis is fixed to the bone with the help of Bone Cement |

Un-Cemented Total Hip Replacement: |

In this type the prosthesis have a press-fit type of mechanism and have crevices through which there is bone in-growth |

Articular Surface Replacement: ASR |
 |
In this type only the surface of the ball and socket is shave off and replaced with a metal. |
There are different criteria’s and specification for using each type of prosthesis. Some patients may do very well with a cemented hip replacement, some may have a good result with an un-cemented hip replacement and others may do very well with an ASR.
These Criteria’s are based on age of the patient, Quality of Bone, Deformities present and functional activity of the patient. It varies from Patient to Patient. |
